Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some answers to the most common questions trade users may have. Staff members are expected to know the answers to these questions.

What is False?

False occurs in two forms. The first form is when someone posts in the main chat that they are buying a power for a certain price and then attempt to buy it for less in private chat. The second form is when someone posts in the main chat that they are selling a power for a certain price and then attempt to sell it for more in private chat. It is NOT false if someone offers to buy your power for a lower price than you posted in the main chat.

What is Price Abuse?

Price abuse is when someone attempts to sell a power that is unlimited for a price higher than the power’s price in the xat store. Selling a limited power for a price over it’s original price in store is not abuse. It is also not abuse to sell or buy powers for higher or lower than their fairtrade prices (note: buying/selling powers at ridiculous prices to troll the chat is against the rules).

What is Flood?

Flood is when someone posts 4 or more messages in a row. It is preferred that you post everything you are buying/selling in one message and you don’t repeat it multiple times in a row. If you post three or two messages in a row, moderators might warn you to “watch flood” or “post once”, so that you are aware of the flood rule and to not break it.

Someone Tried to Scam me, what do I do?

If someone tries to scam you, stop the trade immediately, take screenshots and send it to a moderator or owner. If a staff member believes your report is credible and contains enough proof, they will most likely advise you to open a ticket. To open a ticket, go to http://xat.com/ticket and open a ticket in the “report” scam” help topic. Please include all the information/screenshots you sent to the Trade moderator or owner. Trade staff will take action in the chat against the offender if they believe the report contains sufficient proof/screenshots. Staff will most likely not inform you of their decision to take action or not and what punishment was issued, if any.

I was Scammed, what do I do?

If someone scammed you, take screenshots and send it to a moderator or owner. If a staff member believes your report is credible and contains enough proof, they will most likely advise you to open a ticket in the “report scam” help department. To open a ticket, go to http://xat.com/ticket and open a ticket in the “report” scam” category. Please include all the information/screenshots you sent to the Trade moderator or owner. Trade staff will take action in the chat against the offender if they believe the report contains sufficient proof/screenshots. Staff will most likely not inform you of their decision to take action or not and what punishment was issued, if any. Note: Trade staff cannot cancel a transaction and return your powers or xats to you if you were scammed. This is handled by the volunteer who responds to your ticket. Volunteers very rarely return scammed powers and xats and you should expect them not to do so.

Why Can’t I use Smilies Over Size w7 in my Name?

Smilies over size w7 tend to overlap text or other people’s names. It isn’t fair if someone’s offer is blocked and unseen by other traders because someone else has a smilie in their name that’s blocking their message. These types of smilies can also cause lag to some users.

Why is Trade Subscribers Only?

Subscribers Only means only users with subscription days may use the chat. If you don’t have any days, you may buy some from a moderator or from another chat. You do NOT need to be a member to use the chat and should not ask a moderator for this rank.

How do I buy a day from a Moderator?

Users who do not have days and want to use Trade may buy days from a moderator. If you do not have days, you cannot use the trade app. Private Chat a moderator (all moderators should have their pc open) and ask them if you can buy a day. The moderator will tell you their price (usually 13-15 xats) and ask you to transfer the xats to them. Once the moderator receives your xats, they will transfer you the day or days you purchased.

How do I Become a Moderator?

Becoming a staff member on Trade takes time and hard work. If you are interested in joining the staff team, doing the following will significantly help your chances:

  • Be active on the chat.
  • Help the staff by reporting rule breakers.
  • Read the Trade Blog regularly.
  • Have a general idea of how trading works.
  • Following and knowing the rules.

Why is Trade English Only?

English is the most spoken language on xat and Trade is English only for that reason. If Trade was international, not everyone would be able to understand each other and it would be harder for you to successfully use the chat. In the event that the chat allowed every language, the chat staff, users, volunteers and xat admins would have a much harder time communicating with each other. If you are uncomfortable or unable to speak English, you may use the translator application or use another Trade chat that speaks a language you prefer. Other Trade chats can be found here.

Staff Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to the most common questions staff members may have. If you are interested in becoming a moderator or already are one, read the information below.

A User Reported Something and I Don’t Know how to Handle it

If you are unsure on how to handle something or are unsure if the reported incident violates any of the rules, tell the user you will handle their report and private chat an owner or another moderator, who will help you deal with the report. You may also refer to Trade’s moderator guide.

How do I Handle an Attempted Scam/Scam Report?

Ensure there is sufficient proof, some of the screenshots must include the ID and regname of the scammer and the Trade App. If more proof is required, ask the user to take new screenshots that include the missing proof. Once you have everything you need to determine if the report is legitimate, thank the user.

If you are 100% sure it is a scam or attempted scam, ban the scammer for 24 hours and ask the reporter to open a ticket (you can open a ticket for them if they prefer, but make sure you both don’t open one). Include the proof in the ban if YOU don’t open a ticket.

If you are unsure if the incident is a scam/attempted scam or not, private chat an owner or fellow moderator and send them the proof. You can also consult events and see if the reported user has been banned before for scamming.

If the report doesn’t contain enough proof or isn’t a scam/attempted scam, still thank the user but do not take any action.

Someone Said Something in a Different Language and Users are Reporting it is Inappropriate, but I Don’t Know What it Means.

Never ban someone for saying something in another language if you don’t know what it means in english. Take a screenshot of the statement/words in question and see if any trade staff online can translate it. If none of the online staff can translate it, try plugging the words into google translate. If no translation appears on google translate (which happens when something is misspelled or slang), try and find a staff member on another official chat, like Help or Chat, who has the ability to translate it for you.

How do I ban Someone That Isn’t in my Pool or is Offline?

Follow the steps below.

  1. Add the user using the /f command.
  2. Click on them in your friends list and open their private chat.
  3. Click on their name in your private chat and you will see the option to ban them.
